As many of you know, I am an avid sea glasser. It has been a dream come true to go glassing in the UK. Musselburgh beach, Scotland, UK was a Mecca as a glassing experience for me. The sea glass was everywhere! Cries of happy delight emanated from me, possibly scaring the dog walkers in the area. I could not believe that people walking by just let the sea glass lay on the beach! James sagely reminded me of the old saying, “one man’s trash is another’s treasure.” This beach was certainly a treasure for me. The sea glass is vastly different from the glass I pick up on my Chesapeake Bay beaches. It’s older, smoother, and silkier. I found mostly white and sea foam glass with a couple of pieces of green. James found small bits of cobalt and cornflower blue. Oh, how I wish I had my jewelry tools, torch, and silver at hand!
Update – Since our Musselburgh trip, we have glassed at Chanonry Beach, just north of Edinburgh. Lovely. More sea pottery than glass. The views were stunning!
