It was a little cooker today and the day our friends Sonia had to leave for the main land. We squeezed every moment we could have her remaining time. Sonia and I are sea glass obsessed and we returned to the public beach in Aguadilla to look for more treasures. Fortunately, we’re on the Western side of the island and the beach was shaded by trees for the most part. It was pleasant to hunt glass, but there was a lot of competition this morning.
Sonia and I invented a new sport – sea glass fishing. You stand int the shallows and grab a handful of sand with a hopefully good piece of glass while the waves bash at your body. It was fun and we were fairly successful in our search. One of our competitors brought a net to scoop up sand and glass. We vowed to bring the proper tools for the next trip.
We returned to the Air BnB to enjoy the eggs from Ruben’s farm cooked in butter and the savory Puerto Rican bread. I don’t often eat bread in the states. The extra carbs aren’t something I indulge in too often, but this bread is a delightful treat. The crust is flaky and the inside is like a cloud. I will miss it when I return to the main land.
The ocean was calmer today. We played in the waves and snorkeled, looking for glass. We played until the very last minute to take Sonia to the airport. It was my turn to drive. Let’s just say I’m grateful for my Scotland driving experience of narrow roads on twisty turny hills… It was a greeting wheel stopping experience.
James and I ventured to Pueblo, the local grocery store chain to pick up food for our evening meal. I willl not complain about grocery prices on the mainland, as grocery prices in Puerto Rico are double of what we pay in Maryland. It has been an eye=opening experience!
Storms were coming in, so we settled in with old movies and I shouted salmon in herbed butter, made potato salad vinaigrette, and salad. Rosie sent the leftover flan to us for a treat for dessert, and we had ice cream. Yum! More adventures tomorow.
FYI – the power grid and internet are intermittant here. It has been challenging to post.
