We started our Sunday with a leisurely brunch at the Lucas & Ella restaurant a few blocks away from our stay. Delicious food and we indulged in chocolate chip cookie cups drenched in chocolate for our morning coffee. Afterwards, we walked off our brunch by looking for sea glass about a mile down the road at the public beach in Aguadilla.
Sea glass Mecca! At the tideline there was an abundant amount of glass. It reminded me of the glass in Musselburgh, Scotland. We happily traipsed along the shoreline to pick up handfuls of glass. It consisted of mostly whites, browns, and the Coca Cola blue green. Our friend Holly, HL Sea and Beach Glass, who is traveling with us, makes adorable sea glass ghost pendants and earrings, so we found many ghosts for her to drill when she returns to New York.
No one can describe the tropical heat until you experience it. We were literally dripping and exhausted despite cooling off in the shallow surf. We returned to the Air BnB to shower and rest until it was time to meet our friends Ruben and Rosie.
In the afternoon, Ruben gave us a tour of his seven acre exotic fruit farm. he picked fresh “Apple” Bananas, Star Fruit, and Avacado. He filled a box of fresh eggs for us too. We tried a ripe coffee bean that was surprisingly sweet. Ruben grows and roasts his own coffee. It’s delicious!
Ruben and Rosie treated us to dinner at their home. Rosie made guacamole from the avacados on the farm, a Barbados Cherry drink, also from berries from the farm, and regular and coconut flan. All this along with a tray of spiced pork, fried queso cheese, plantain chips, and chicken to eat. We ended the day with good conversation over a cup of Ruben’s coffee and listened to the Coqui frogs.
It was a lovely day.
