We’re up EXTREMELY early to catch the plane to go to Puerto Rico on a sea glass and mermaid research adventure for a forthcoming book. The Shattered Sea (working title) will be set in Puerto Rico. Right now, the book is swimming in my head in two different times — the 17th century and the 21st. Swashbuckling sailors, beautiful mermaids, turquoise waters, and sea glass (Mermaid’s tears) will be the focus.
I’ve never been to the Caribbean, so this’ll be a first. I’m excited as glimmers of a mermaid book have been swimming in my head for years. I’m hoping this book to be written after the first Elen book. The research has begun!
Elen update – the book has been magical and almost channeled when I sit down to write. The 18th century is not quite a challenge, but I find I write a paragraph and end up researching a day or so before returning to the manuscript. We are so fortunate to have our technology bring us resources to our fingertips, as well as my collection of books I’ve gathered for the writing.
And, now, I’m gathering books on mermaids and the Taino people. Bibliomaniacy reigns large in my life!
