Our stay on the Enchanted Isle – Puerto Rico, is quickly coming to a close. The noisy Air BnB neighbors have exited. Their all night music and loud voices were replaced with a loud ocean last night.
When we awoke early this morning, we saw the tideline just a few feet from the Air BnB. The waves were huge! The sound of waves can usually be soothing, but the waves last night and throughout today were like heavy metal music. We heard about the Nor’easter on the Northern edge of the island that was heading up the coast towards mainland USA. We thought that the surfers in Rincon must be in heaven with catching the high waves.
Today was a ‘run around day.’ We checked the beaches in Aguadilla and Aguada for sea glass. The high, violent waves scoured the shorelines and the glass was swept out to sea. Our friend Ruben told us that when the waves calm, it will be a few days until the glass returns, and then it will be a fine treasure hunt.
We also visited the Coqui distillery Mayaguez. It was a lovely tour and we met other mainland Americans from Tennessee and Florida. The distillery produces Pitorro, a kind of moonshine that is flavored with fruit as well as rum. We highly recommend the tour if you are in this area of Puerto Rico.
We also had a declicious lunch in Mayaguez at Restaurante y Tasca La Posada with authentic foods. After lunch and the rum tour we returned to Aguadilla to a small gift shop before we went to dinner with our friends Ruben and Rosie. I am enjoying the Puerto Rican food – particularly the locally caught red snapper and grouper. Mofogo is a traditional Puerto Rican dish of smashed, cooked plantains and usually topped with a sauce. We have enjoyed this delicious treat at several restaurants. Tonight we dined at the Riverside Castle Retaurant in Aguada. Tremendous food. Rosie brought a coconut, cinnamon, and rum drink that is usually served at the holidays — Coquitos. Incredible!
We returned to the Air BnB full of love and warmth from our friends and filled to bursting with delicious foods. I have a lovely image to upload for this post, but the internet is extremely shaky.
