Our second and third day in Puerto Rico. Time is going slow as well as fast. It’s an odd feeling. Our second day, we relaxed and then picked up our friend Sonia at the airport. Afterwards, we met our Puerto Rico friends, Ruben and Rosie (Rubtoys) for noshing and drinks at the local outdoor bar that reminds me of Catherine’s Bar in Death in Paradise that my family and I binge watch. Needless to say, Sonia and I had two passionfruit sangria drinks. That was one too many. We were EXTREMELY relaxed and went sea glassing close to sunset, sitting in the waves and scooping up glass.
Day 3 – we arose at 3:30 am to meet our friends Ruben and Rosie to go glassing at Ponce and Mayagueza. It was a long, very hot day with sun, surf, and some amazing glass. We have been told that there is only a paltry amount of glass compared to other years. We are wondering if this is due to the lack of hurricanes this year? We don’t know. Ponce had charcoal colored sand, wild horses and dogs roaming the streets, and rocks on another beach. Our friend Rosie is the ‘Queen of Marbles,’ as she finds them all the time. She found one and gave it to me. Our friend Sonia found two!
We arrived back at the Air BnB exhausted, but wanted to try some snorkeling for glass. We were not very successful, but found a few pieces further down on the beach. The waves were extremely rough at the tidal change.
We’re ending the evening with a sangria and watching anime with James. Tomorrow, we plan on going to Rincon to see the lighthouse, Dome Beach, and a restaurant that our friend Holly knows.
I am on island time. I have little phone signal, and it is very good to be away from constant texts and emails. Elen has been taking a little bit of a back seat in my brain as I focus on how to work on the mermaid books. I have lots of ideas and I know they will gel in the future. I’ve been picking up small pieces of glass to give away when The Shattered Sea is published and I can offer a real piece of Puerto Rican glass – aka a Mermaid’s Tear to readers.
My wish and thought is to return soon.
