September 17th –
We sadly left Cawdor and one of our most favorite stays EVER to hit the road as tourists and continue on the trail to find where my character Elen traveled.
First we stopped by Brodie Castle. Lovely place with incredible history and gardens. This is a very family friendly place. The Play Garden is for children of all ages. James and I thought the gardens were reminiscent of Longwood in several aspects.
The castle was extremely interesting. One of the Brodies bred daffodils — nearly 200 different varietals. The library was beyond magnificent with over six thousand books. The gardening books alone, made my heart swoon.
Afterwards, we lunched at a popular lunch and gift/shopping establishment — The Country Fayre. Excellent food to tides us on the trip south and east towards Aberdeen. It’s quite a drive and we stopped by to see the Pictish Maiden Head stone and the East Aquhorthies Stone Circle. No, no buzzing or hearing of voices as we walked amongst the stones. It is a deeply spiritual spot and quite interesting.
We made our way into the city of Aberdeen. City driving and the city are quite a culture shock after the peace and tranquility of the country. The Air BnB is ‘fine,’ but different from our last, and favorite stay.
