The Liberty Bookshop in Avis, Pennsylvania, is an Air BnB piece of heaven for any bibliophile. Linda Roller, journalist and bookstore owner, is a fantastic host to this amazing place. We returned to The Liberty Bookshop this past weekend for another wonderful visit.
Guests have 24/7 access to the bookshop. Going to the stacks at odd hours to look around and browse through books is a distinct guilty pleasure. This morning, I could wander around quite early with a cup of coffee. My son, James, couldn’t sleep and prowled around the stacks with Jasper the cat before finding another jewel to add to his stack of books to purchase. Nirvana.
There’s something special about the smell of old books towering above you and the sunlight that graces the shelves through some high windows. The Liberty Bookshop was formerly a church, and the reverence here is for the books. It’s a peaceful place to wander, read, sit, and soak in literature. The three bookshop cats, Hector, Mrs. Brown, and Jasper, take turns working at the store to make it even more amazing.
There’s something incredibly special about people like Linda, who open their home and their hearts to friends who have been away for two years due to the pandemic, and it’s like no time has passed. Words are inadequate for our hearts are so full. We’re already looking forward to our next visit of bibliophile adventures.
