Legend has it that shards of sea glass shards are the tears of mermaids. It is a tale of forbidden love when a mermaid falls in love with a human ship’s captain or a sailor. When a great storm erupts she uses her magic to calm the winds and the waves to save him. This is verboten by Poseiden and he banishes his daughter to a deep, dark part of the sea where she is far away from humans. She weeps endlessly for her lover and her tears are glass and the colors of her tail. The ocean tumbles her shiny tears and throws them onto the shore for humans to find and to remember true love and sacrifice.
