We woke up Saturday morning bleary-eyed, not from over-indulging, but from Air BnB neighbors that partied LOUDLY until the time I awoke at 4 am. The music was still blaring when Sonia and I took an early morning walk with our coffees and, of course, look for sea glass. Today’s glass was very young and we threw it back into the ocean to cook for another fifty years. We returned to the Air BnB with a paltry handfuls of shards. The positives of the beach walk were the two dogs that accompanied us. Wild dogs are everywhere in Puerto Rico. They are extremely friendly and well behaved.
Sonia made us a gourmet breakfast of peppers, onions, freshly shaved Parmesan, and scrambled eggs. Accompanied with the delicious Puerto Rican bread, it was a meal fit for gourmets. We love the bread in Puerto Rico. The crust is thin and flaky while the inside is moist and flufffy. We have been visiting local bakeries for bread and delicious desserts like Leche Cake nearly daily.
Next stop, the Ramey Air Force Base museum. It was difficult to find the small museum, even with GPS, but it was well worth challenge of finding the museum upon hearing the history behind the Air Field and its activities during the 20th century. Our guide was outstanding had shared many stories of his time growing up in the area and of his grandfather’s service in the USAF.
Rincon Lighthouse was next up on our trip. It’s breathtakingly beautiful from the Lighthouse Park. I’m either side of the lighthouse, down rocky cliffs, are the beaches for the surfers.
We heard of a great sea glassing beach by the lighthouse, but we were unable to traverse the rocky cliffs to get to the shore. Next trip, earthling lines! Do I sound like a desperate sea glasser or what?
We tootled around the Rincon area finding an out of the way gift shop/cat rescue, and had a lovely lunch overlooking the sea over Rincon.
The heavens opened up then and we headed back towards Aguadilla. There was a small comic con going on at the Aguadilla Mall and James wanted to check it out.
Aftwerwards, we waiting for the rain to cease before going to our neighborhood bar and restaurant – Rumpeolas.
My mind is swimming with possibilities about The Shattered Sea. I learned while in Rincon, there was an 18th century prince who drowned in a shipwreck off the coast. Shades of The Little Mermaid! It is easy to imagine mermaids swimming in the turquoise waters amongst the rocky shoreline in Rincon. Ideas abound.
