Day 12 – A Quiet Sunday – Cellardyke – Scotland Adventure 2025
We are in East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. At first, I couldn’t remember why I booked a stay here. Our Air BnB is lovely and the towns of Cellardyke and Anstruther, which butt up against each other, are charming. And, then I remembered, Anstruther has a Cider Bar we planned on visiting to be featured in an upcoming Meadowood Mystery. Mari’s (Mari is the protagonist) grandparents, have a Cidery in the UK.
Walking from our stay into town is like stepping back into time. I felt I should be wearing the costume of a Victorian fish wife. The houses are huddled together sitting right against the ocean. It’s a lovely fishing village. We beachcombed, admired the surroundings, watched families eating ice cream in the Sunday sun, ate fish and chips, and visited the Cider Bar.
The Cider Bar was different from what I expected. They had ciders to taste from all over the UK. A lovely graduate student from St. Andrews was manning the small bar today and we were the only visitors while there.
Neuk is the Scots word for nook. There are a few small towns that hug the coast in this part of Scotland and are described as a ‘string of pearls.’ They are charming fishing villages and now many homes are holiday lets. We were not alone in spending time enjoying the September sun. This is yet another place I would love to return to at a future date. The sound of the sea and the cry of the gulls are wooing me to return.
