Inspired by the moody music of The Cheeky Celt (https://www.youtube.com/@TheCheekyCelt)
Specifically, “The Raven” and “When the Calleach Sings,” inspired me to write a song for the forthcoming Elen book that keeps sneaking in while I try to complete the cozy mystery Will Dye Another Day! I have the song/poem below and am seeking copyright free music, possibly ancient Celtic music that fits the poem-song. I’m willing to tweak! Please send any suggestions to: sharon@sharon-brubaker.com
A Song for Elen
By

2026
I am the deer,
All roan and red,
Who binds the ways,
Of earth and tread.
I am Elen, oldest of old,
Guiding skyways and pathways, strolled.
I am old,
Older than the hills,
To care for those,
Through love and will.
And through the years,
Holding ancient ways,
I am the path,
To follow each day.
I am Elen of the deer,
Of pathways and rivers,
Keeping ways clear.
I am the deer,
All roan and red,
Who binds the ways,
Of earth and tread.
I am Elen, the oldest of old.
Guiding skyways and pathways, strolled.
I’ve been a fan of ‘piggy-back’ songs forever and used to use them in my educational career as it was another modality for children to learn. Somewhere, someone is singing “I Like Books” or the “Dewey Decimal song.” Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
