Day 2 – Scotland

Apologies, I am late in posting. James and I walked miles and miles and miles in Edinburgh yesterday. What a fabulous day. I was bone weary by the time we made it back to our Air BnB flat, nearly falling asleep on buns #26 back to Portobello.

We started our day with breakfast at the Press Club on Cockburn Street, before we met Kat at the gates of Holyrood Palace. James had a ‘Scottish Stack’ for breakfast, with Black Pudding, White Pudding, Haggis, and a Potato Rossi, topped with poached eggs and brown gravy. I opted for mushrooms on freshly baked, seeded sourdough. Excellent.

We highly recommend TravelKatTours. Kat gave us an outstanding tour of the witchcraft era in Scotland. Spoiler alert – there is a witch trial in Elen. Kat gave us excellent background information, as well as additional Scottish history and insight to where many spots where Outlander was filmed.

After the tour, we navigated through the throngs of tourists on the Royal Mile and spent the day exploring the city. We were on the hunt for a few yards of Elen’s Tartan material — the Keith Tartan— but were unsuccessful. Instead, we found gems of bookstores and popped in to find treasures. Part of our walking adventure was maneuvering through the University of Edinburgh area. It was “Welcome Back” week and the streets were almost as crowded as the Royal Mile.

We took mental notes as to places we would like to stop by on our return to Edinburgh in two weeks.
